Sexual Orientation
We have identified the following organisations that work across the region and throughout West Yorkshire with sexual orientation issues. If you know of an organisation that should be listed here, please email WYLDA@regionalforum.org.uk
The Equity Partnership
The Equity Partnership supports lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) communities in many ways.
It plays an active role in developing LGB communities by supporting existing groups and helping new ones to start through community development work. Through the regional LGB network and workers forums it brings groups and individuals together to network and discuss issues. The Partnership supports LGB groups and individuals to have a say in the decisions taken by agencies which affect lives. It works with other voluntary and statutory agencies to ensure that local services are appropriate to the needs of LGB people.
The Equity Partnership's training programme is geared towards giving organisations the knowledge and tools to combat homophobia and create LGB-friendly workplaces and services. It will also shortly offer a new Equalities training and consultancy programme reflecting disability and ethnicity issues as well as sexual orientation. This training is a partnership between Coemo and BACC.
The aims of Equity Partnership are to:
-play a key role in the development of LGB communities
-challenge homophobia and heterosexism
-ensure that the long term needs of LGB communities are provided for
-act as a network for advancing lesbian, gay and bisexual issues
-manage the Equity Centre (Bradford's LGB community centre)
The Partnership is an Infrastructure Support Organisation (ISO), which means that it provides advice, support and services to other LGB voluntary and community organisations throughout West Yorkshire. The Partnership works in close collaboration with other relevant agencies to bring the widest range of support into LGB groups. Equity Partnership is represented on the WYLDA Executive and the WYLDA Mainstreaming Equalities group.
