Religion and Belief

We have identified the following organisations that work across the region and throughout West Yorkshire with religion and belief. If you know of an organisation that should be listed here, please email WYLDA@regionalforum.org.uk

Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum
Established in 2005, the Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum aims to:

  • Advance the contribution of faith communities in the Yorkshire and Humber region;
  • Encourage and educate faith communities to work together in matters of policy, strategy and action
  • Challenge all forms of discrimination and injustice against persons or groups of people, particularly in the grounds of religious belief.

Faith impacts on all aspects of our daily lives – work, home, leisure, health, travel and education. It is important that faith groups are involved when making government policy and delivering services locally. By creating a forum for faiths in the region more people representing our diverse communities can affect how decisions are made that affect our lives. With more decisions being made at regional level on issues such as jobs, housing and transport, the opportunity is there to ensure that we are closer to the decision makers and that our voice is heard.

Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber (CRC)
Churches Regional Commission for Yorkshire and the Humber (CRC) is a Christian organisation that is proactive with public bodies and faith partners in promoting regeneration in the region. CRC was established in 1998 to assert the significance of faith in the region, to represent the churches at a regional level to regional institutions, and to enable the churches to act as partners in regeneration.

CRC works broadly in four areas of policy: rural, interfaith, culture, and social inclusion. We publish briefing papers, run events and training. We also have three delivery projects: Faith Matters, run jointly with the Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum, which is about widening knowledge and engagement in private, public and voluntary organisations with faith and its practice and faith communities; a rural project supporting farmers with advice, skills and training; and a heritage/tourism project working with places of worship in West Yorkshire. We are partners in a national project called Faith to Engage, run by Faithworks.
